Vermont has Her back.

On January 25th a group of Vermonters sent a letter to the Vermont press corps asking them to examine their coverage of women in politics and women running for office. Vermont is the only state in the nation to have never elected a woman to Congress. Only one woman has served as governor. We have never elected a woman of color to any legislative leadership position or statewide office. This is our story and it casts a long shadow on our nationally perceived status as a leader on issues of equality. Prejudice, harmful stereotypes and bias bar women from the highest elective offices. Continuing to allow outdated evaluations of their success and worth in terms of stereotypes and casual bias no longer serves as credible news coverage.

This is a non-partisan group of Vermonters that want diverse voices in our politics and greater equity in our communities. We look forward to the next generation of women leaders. No matter who she is, we have her back.
